《2》 is the first duet work created by Tao Ye and Duan Ni, founding artists of TAO Dance Theater. They believe the duet, while being the most familiar form of dance interaction, also presents the greatest choreographic challenge.

Driven by a desire for conceptual breakthrough, they spent a year exploring over a hundred distinct movement vocabularies. Ultimately, they distilled just one defining movement quality for 《2》: confined to the floor, the two dancers never meet each other's gaze nor make physical contact. Through seated, reclining, and rolling motions—constantly transferring weight via mutual support—they navigate binary dynamics: proximity/distance, speed/slowness, scale, verticality, direction, intensity, and stillness/motion. In this way, they confront each other’s lived reality through elemental duality.

Across 50 minutes of intense corporeal dialogue, their bodies—caught between pure energy expenditure and spiritual preservation—generate a transcendent temporal-spatial tension that extends beyond the performance itself. Combined with experimental electronic noise music composed in collaboration with pioneering musician Xiao He, the work delivers an extraordinary experience of somatic meditation and spiritual transcendence.
